In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the suburb of Mulund, a 22-year-old woman, identified as Payal Uttam Pandey, ended her life just six days before her wedding. The tragedy unfolded at the Siddharth Nagar BMC Colony on Dr. R.P. Road, Mulund West, Mumbai, Maharashtra where the young woman jumped from the terrace of the 20th floor.
According to the official statement from the investigation officer, PSI Ashok Ramdas Shelar of Mulund Police Station, the incident has been registered as an Accidental Death Report ADR No. 60/2026 Dated : 22 – 04 - 2026.
Investigation Reveals Mental Distress
The police investigation has brought to light a somber backstory to the upcoming nuptials. Payal, a resident of the 19th floor, was scheduled to be married on April 28, 2026. However, officials revealed that she had been vehemently opposed to the marriage since it was fixed a year ago.
"The deceased was reportedly under significant mental pressure and depression because she did not wish to marry the individual chosen for her," the investigation officer stated. Despite her repeated pleas to her family to call off the wedding, the preparations continued, leading to a state of deep emotional distress.
A History of Impulsivity
Police records and family statements suggest that Payal had a history of impulsive behavior. It was disclosed that during her school years (10th or 11th grade), she had previously attempted to harm herself following a domestic dispute over her studies.
While the police have thoroughly scanned her mobile records and personal belongings, no evidence of an external romantic involvement has been found. The act appears to be a direct consequence of her prolonged dissatisfaction with the arranged marriage.
The Mulund Police have cordoned off the area and are continuing their inquiry to ensure no other factors played a role in this tragedy.
"Our news channel offers its deepest condolences to the bereaved family. We pray for the departed soul of Payal to rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti."
