Mumbai Businessman Alleges ₹50 Crore Loss After Telecom Giant Disconnects VIP Mobile Number Without Notice

A major controversy has erupted in Mumbai after a prominent businessman accused telecom operator Vodafone Idea Limited of arbitrarily disconnecting a long-standing corporate VIP mobile number, allegedly causing massive business losses exceeding ₹50 crore.
The complaint, filed by Subhash Salaria, Managing Director of Sumit Safe Security Pvt. Ltd., claims that his company's key corporate communication line 9223955555 was suddenly discontinued by the telecom operator without any prior notice, explanation, or opportunity to respond.
According to Salaria, the abrupt termination of the number has crippled business operations, disrupted financial transactions, and caused severe reputational damage.
“Business Lifeline Cut Without Warning”
In a formal complaint addressed to the CEO of Vodafone Idea Limited, Salaria alleged that the mobile number had been functioning as the principal corporate contact line for his security services company based in Mulund, Mumbai.
The number was reportedly used for:
Client communication
Contract negotiations
Banking and OTP verification
Government and statutory registrations
Vendor coordination
“The number was fully compliant with KYC norms and all regulatory requirements. Yet it was disconnected without a show-cause notice or due process,” Salaria stated in the complaint.
Alleged Violation of Telecom Rules
The complaint accuses the telecom operator of violating guidelines issued by the Department of Telecommunications, including subscriber protection provisions issued in 2012 and 2020.
Salaria claims the telecom company failed to follow mandatory procedures before disconnecting the number, which allegedly violates:
Provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885
Unified telecom license conditions
Due process requirements under telecom subscriber protection rules
₹50 Crore Damage Claim
The businessman has demanded ₹50 crore in compensation, alleging that the sudden disconnection triggered severe commercial consequences.
According to the complaint, the estimated losses include:

A legal notice was issued to Vodafone Idea on January 21, 2026 through advocate Vikramajit Jiyalal Kori, demanding:
Immediate restoration of the mobile number
Written apology from the telecom operator
Compensation for financial losses
However, Salaria alleges that no response or corrective action has been received even after the 15-day deadline expired.
Complaint Sent to PM, TRAI and Police
The matter has now been escalated to several authorities including:
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
The office of Narendra Modi
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde
Mumbai Police Commissioner
Director General of Police, Maharashtra
Copies of the complaint were also sent to several national and regional media houses requesting investigation into the issue.

Salaria has warned that if the issue is not resolved within seven days, he will pursue multiple legal remedies including:
Civil lawsuits
Consumer court proceedings
Writ petitions
Criminal complaints for negligence and regulatory violations
Legal experts say the case could become a significant telecom consumer rights dispute if it reaches court.
